James Deutsch, Ph.D.

Director Africa Programs, Wildlife Conservation Society

James Deutsch directs the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Africa Program, employing over 800 staff in the field. He has studied and published on Uganda kob behavioral ecology (for a Cambridge University Ph.D.), Malawi cichlid evolution, and primate behavior. He has has lectured in ecology and conservation biology at Imperial College, London, and at the University of East Anglia. James also led courses for the Tropical Biology Association in Uganda and Kenya, and taught high school in Kenya.
